There are many reasons men wear pink — preference, fashion, or in solidarity with a loved one or cause.
Maddy’s Bows founders Mary Anne and Steve McDowell were inspired to create the company following the traumatic loss of their daughter, Madeline. A lover of books and all things pink, Mary Anne and Steve set out to celebrate Madeline’s spirit — through Steve’s fondness for bow ties, and his and Mary Anne’s support of The Rabbit Hole.
Steve is a lifelong wearer and collector of custom-made bow ties. In fact, many refer to bow ties as his trademark. After Madeline passed away, Steve shifted his collection to always include pink. Soon, friends began to take notice and inquire about his bow ties. Steve and Mary Anne decided to collaborate with friend and artist Debra Smith to create unique designs that incorporate recycled and new fabrics. From the beginning, the intention was to always help children through their experiences at The Rabbit Hole.
Pink is sometimes the dominant color and other times a subtle accent, depending upon how the wearer decides to tie the bow. The ties are reversible, made of beautiful and carefully composed fabrics on opposite sides of each tie. The ties are constructed in two parts, with four buttons in the neck band that allow ultimate flexibility in size and wearing combinations. Depending on how the wearer buttons the two halves and chooses to tie the bow, the results can deliver almost unlimited options.
